Changing People's Live, One Meal at a Time
I'm inspired on a daily basis by the wonderful seniors that Meals on Wheels People serves. I deliver meals to about 8 seniors on Mondays. Each week brings something different. Sometimes Sheldon is perky and waiting for me in his wheelchair. If 94 year old Dorothy is feeling well - I hear "hang on a minute" and I know I'm going to see her smiling face as the door opens. Sometimes, I walk away from the door, make my way to the car, slowly drive away to pull over to shed a few tears. Recently, Helen's caretaker opened the door with a somber face and informed me that Helen had stopped eating and hospice was there to keep her comfortable. The next week, Helen was gone.
While Monday's are not many people's favorite day of the week, I look forward to Monday. I know that my love tank is going to be full by the end of the day. I'm reminded to slow down, take a moment to listen to a fantastic story and to be grateful.
I'm here to help raise money for Meals on Wheels People. We currently serve 5,700 meals EVERY weekday. That is 1.1 million meals annually. We serve over 12,000 seniors via nearly 5000 volunteers. The work we do is amazing. I'm proud to work for one of the largest and most innovative meals on wheels program in the country. What is even more impressive - we have NEVER had to turn anyone away or institute a waiting list. When a meal is requested, we typically can have their first visit within 48 hours.
We've been able to do what we do - so well - due to the support of our community. I hope that you will join me in supporting this wonderful organization by joining me to walk or by making a donation.
